LIMES LAND, TENTERDEN

LATEST NEWS

We are still waiting for a decision from the Department for Education regarding Tenterden Schools Trust application to dispose of land.  We will notify you as soon as we have more information.

Now more than ever we are thankful for our local green spaces. It is wonderful to see so many residents exercising and walking their dogs on Limes Land, whilst respecting social distancing.

Green space has been linked with reduced levels of obesity in children and young people in America (Liu et al 2007). There is also strong evidence that access to open spaces and sports facilities is associated with higher levels of physical activity (Coombes et al 2010; Lee and Maheswaran 2010) and reductions in a number of long-term conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and musculoskeletal conditions (Department of Health 2012).

We are hoping to formally designate the circular footpath that runs around Limes Land as a Public Right of Way, so that it can be used by future generations.  If you have used the route for a period of time, or know someone who walks around Limes Land, then please get in touch - limeslandprotectiongroup@gmail.com

Kent County Council agrees that the route has been used, however, Wates are disputing this!  A Planning Inspector is now considering the footpath application, and will hopefully adopt the circular route that has been used by residents for more than 60 years.  As a community we can protect this route for future generations and adopt the footpath as a formal PRoW.

Hundreds of houses are due to be built in Tenterden which already have planning permission, so more houses will be unsustainable.  Limes Land has not been allocated in the Ashford Local Plan as a site for development, therefore, both Ashford Borough Council and an independent Planning Inspector have agreed that development is not necessary on Limes Land.

Residents would like Limes Land to become a Local Green Space for the community, providing acres of open space to walk, exercise and enjoy nature, improving both physical and mental health.
